Pope and "Young" Doe down!

Yesterday I had the privilege of taking out my first whitetail doe ever with my bow.  Bow Doe hunting isn't the most exciting thing in the world for people to listen to someone talk about.  I'm guessin' that's why I got turned down on my 'Outdoors' Channel Presents Comancho's Doe Bow Show'...but for me, this doe hunt was an experience for sure.  I've been trying to get a doe for the last couple years and have failed miserably numerous times.  Being patient definitely helped me seal the deal.  I always try to go too quickly and it always led to some good ol' fashion spookin!

So back to the story...I shot her at 20 yards with a G5 T3 Expandable Broadhead.  "But Comancho?! You don't shoot expandables!" Yeah yeah, I know.  I bought a couple back in the day late night on a Stalk and Spook Broadhead Binge.  This is when you don't know which broadheads to shoot and you buy 3 different kinds for the hell of it and wake up the next morning with a big headache and a hole in your pocket.  I didn't know what happened or what I was going to do but of course didn't tell any of my friends about it.  I carried on like I loved the G5 Striker's for the past couple years and those were the only things I'd ever shoot (I bought some of those bingin' too).  But guess what?  I finally burned through my Striker's (which were amazing) and needed something else to shoot, and ol' expandable was there for me.  Just sittin all pretty and shiny, waiting to expand.

I was always curious what it could do, but never had the courage to shoot it until yesterday.  People always says expandables don't penetrate as well, don't inflict as much damage, fail way more often, but let me tell you, this G5 T3 absolutely exploded this deer.  So much so that it ran exactly 0 yards after I hit it. The explosion picture is a reenactment of what happened when lil Ms. Doe turned broadside on a brisk Monday evening, being that the real picture wouldn't be suitable for children under the age of 14. So all in all, I shot my buck with a Striker, my Elk cow with a Montec, and my doe with a T3.  Soooo G5 makes really good broadheads and the T3 is no slouch.

So after waiting a couple minutes, I pulled my doe across the river and heard some noise to my right.  I looked over and saw a bull moose, a cow, and a calf about 30 yards from me and they weren't the most happy to see me.  I'm not sure if they were friends with the doe, but I got out of there quick.  I'm not going to say it was the biggest bull moose I'd ever seen, but at 30 yards, those things are huuuuuuuge.  Anyways, I'm happy I wasn't pounded into the ground by 3 moose and happy I got my first whitetail doe with the first expandable broadhead I've shot from a ground blind for the first time. Lot's of firsts on this one...

Goooood day!
